A researcher in mediaeval Chinese literature

Yeung Christian PAK (MA with distinction, Hong Kong, 2022) is a researcher in East Asian Studies.  Currently a research postgraduate at the University of Alberta, Canada, his interests lie in mediaeval Chinese literature and its literary reception, and classical Chinese vernacular narratives (huaben).  At the University of Alberta, he is focusing on Early Tang poetry and currently exploring Chen Zi'ang (fl. 652–699) and his social network associated with Daoism.  He obtained a MA in Chinese Language and Literature at the School of Chinese, The University of Hong Kong (HKU) in 2022.  His HKU dissertation ("capstone project" in North American academic settings) focused on the Song loyalist-poet, Zheng Sixiao (1241–1318) and his poetry on Chrysanthemum.  Christian is a member of the Rocky Mountain Modern Language Association and the British Association for Chinese Studies.

白洋,東亞研究研究員,現為加拿大艾伯塔大學東亞研究系研究生。他的研究興趣為中古中國文學及其文學接受,以及古典中國小說 (以話本為主) 。在艾伯塔大學裡,他現正研究初唐詩,著墨於陳子昂 (約652–699) 及初唐與道教相關的人際關係。白此前曾於香港大學中文學院求學,取得中國語言及文學文學碩士學位並以優異成績畢業。他的畢業論文研究南宋遺民鄭思肖 (1241–1318) 和他的詠菊詩。他是落磯山現代語言學會以及英國漢學學會的會員。

Besides a researcher ...

Christian is also an experienced and passionate instructor.  He has taught a variety of courses related to Chinese language as a second language, as well as courses on Chinese civilisation.  In 2019, he taught an undergraduate senior-level course on Chinese palaeography at the School of Languages, Linguistics, Literatures, and Cultures at the University of Calgary.  He also served as an instructor at the Chinese Academy from 2018 to 2019, teaching Chinese classes at various levels, from grade three to adult learners in both Cantonese and Mandarin Chinese tone.

Christian is currently a Project Manager of the Consortium for Distributed and Passive Sensing, where his responsibilities include assistance in project administrative duties, project deliverables, events, and ongoing strategic work within the Consortium. He possesses 5+ experience of managing and executing research projects in science and engineering related fields and specializes in knowledge dissemination and manuscript editing. He previously served at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering from 2019 through 2022 and the Communications and Public Relations Office at CUHK from 2017 to 2018.
